Multi-Year Mission-Driven Innovation Programs (MMIPs)

Through three Multi-Year Mission-Driven Innovation Programs (MMIPs), we are working on a programmatic approach for the development and upscaling of knowledge and innovation for a CO2-free and future-proof built environment in 2050.

Three multi-year missions

Renovation of built environment

Strengthening, improving and making millions of homes, buildings and infrastructure more sustainable.

Climate-resilient, nature-inclusive, and context-aware building

Preparing the built environment for climate change, with attention to biodiversity and minimal emissions.

Circular construction and infrastructure

Improving the built environment with minimal environmental impact, through circular value chains and significantly reduced use of raw materials.

Frequently asked questions

A Multi-Year Mission-Driven Innovation Program (MMIP) focuses on addressing societal challenges through innovation. With a programmatic approach, it promotes collaboration between governments, businesses, and knowledge institutions, enabling them to innovate together more quickly and efficiently.

Since 2019, the Dutch government’s energy innovation policy has been based on missions. For the built environment, the objectives of these missions focus on achieving a CO₂-free and future-proof built environment by 2050. To reach these goals, we focus on Multi-Year Mission-Driven Innovation Programs (MMIPs). These programs provide a programmatic approach to developing the necessary innovations in collaboration with market parties, knowledge institutions, and government bodies.

A programmatic approach to innovation is a structured way of working in which multiple projects are brought together to achieve common goals. It stimulates collaboration and ensures that innovations are implemented effectively and on a large scale.
